Religious issues 01:00:00 on 2005-03-09
Rui Carmo has unearthed a can of worms by asking what five technical religious issues that we face frequently.
Oh, for me that's easy, I face these all the time:
- Windows versus Linux (or, "but it's from Microsoft" versus "it's free – how can it be any good?")
- Windows 2000 versus Windows XP (or, "functional and useful from all standpoints" versus "it's the latest and greatest! Why wouldn't we use it?")
- Gentoo versus practically any other flavor of Linux (or, "I want that 3% performance gain" versus "the vanilla i386 build should be fine for anybody!")
- Delphi versus Visual Studio (or, "fast, useful RAD tool" versus "but it's from Microsoft")
- PHP versus ASP (or, "fast-to-prototype, everything-included development" versus "but it's from Microsoft" (and I'm sure they also think in the back of their mind, "it's free – how can it be any good?" about PHP))
Sense any themes here?
From Rui's post:
Instructions:
List five similar (geek) issues you come across every other day, and add these instructions plus:
That way people can keep track of them all, and follow it back to the source.
